Simon Batamya Aseno

Ghana & University of Johannesburg, 2016

Dr. Simon Aseno is a clinical laboratory and public health systems leader currently working in the United States on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a national population health surveillance program conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Through his role with RTI International, Dr. Aseno supports nationwide clinical laboratory operations and oversees biospecimen processing and laboratory quality systems across Mobile Examination Centers operating throughout the 50 contiguous U.S. states. His work contributes to ensuring the integrity, reliability, and regulatory compliance of biospecimens and laboratory data used in federal public health research and surveillance. Simon holds a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (DMLS) and a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Global Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is also a Rotary Peace Fellow with the Rotary Peace Center hosted jointly by Duke University and the University of North Carolina. His academic training also includes graduate studies in International Development Policy from Duke University, USA and Humanitarian Health from Deakin University, Australia. Originally educated in biomedical technology at the University of Johannesburg, Dr. Aseno has worked across multiple international health systems in roles focused on laboratory governance, health logistics, and workforce capacity building. His work continues to focus on strengthening laboratory quality systems, biospecimen integrity, and public health data infrastructure that support population-level health surveillance and evidence-based decision making.
