Yamkela Ntshakaza
South Africa & University of Cape Town, 2023 With a passion for community-based scholarship, Yamkela's research explores the intersections of creative arts and social culture, delving into how these elements shape identities, foster inclusivity and promote social cohesion. By conducting ethnographic studies in music education, music therapy and community music initiatives, he has gained invaluable insights into the transformative potential of music as a catalyst for positive change. Beyond his academic endeavours, Yamkela is a natural leader who excels in all environments. He has demonstrated an exceptional ability to inspire and mentor students and young professionals, creating inclusive spaces for learning and growth within the Higher Education ecosystem. Through his experience as a leader of various student organizations, he has developed skills in facilitating dialogue, fostering collaboration, and nurturing individual talents. Yamkela firmly believes in the power of education to drive societal transformation, and his leadership has consistently reflected this commitment. Yamkela is now poised to channel his passion for music research and educational leadership into meaningful contributions towards promoting social justice, cultural understanding, inclusivity and all people-centred objectives which align with the ethos of organizations seeking to create positive change in the world.
