Thabo Mhapha

Botswana & University of Cape Town, 2023

Thabo holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Trade Law from the University of Cape Town which he obtained through the Mandela Rhodes Scholarship and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Botswana where he graduated first in his class. During his year of residency as a scholar, Thabo served as a student representative at the University's Sexual Offences Tribunal assisting students and is also the recipient of the PJ Smeets Prize for best African Student in Law, Regional Integration and Development in Africa. His experience is a blend of law and media having also trained and worked with Botswana’s first privately owned radio station, Yarona FM and even served as the host of its flagship breakfast show.

He is currently an Associate with Collins Chilisa Consultants mainly practicing in commercial litigation and labour and employment law. Prior to that, Thabo was a Pupil Attorney at Armstrongs Attorneys, the leading corporate and commercial law firm in Botswana ranked in Band 1 by Chambers. Thabo's main areas of interest are international commercial transactions law, commercial arbitration, international trade, capital markets and investment law.

Since his year of residency, Thabo has continued with his passion for young people, serving in various roles within his local community and church with the goal of advancing young people's education and encouraging their active civic engagement.
